The City Of Allentown, Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, the Deleware And Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, and a host of private businesses and developers are working together to expand and unite the trail systems in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The Public-Private Partnership is part of a larger push to ensure urban, suburban, and rural trail networks combine to offer Pennsylvanians new hiking and biking opportunities.
Jaindl Properties, working through its sister company, The Waterfront Development Company, is making the push by offering land and match dollars for state and federal grants to close the gaps.
“The developers of the Waterfront own another portion of the proposed trail between American Parkway and Union Street that crosses the former Lehigh Structural Steel site. In 2016, they received a $2.3 million grant to extend the trail through the site along a proposed road on the now defunct rail line.”
The push will continue in years to come to unite the Lehigh Valley’s trails and Allentown’s parks with neighboring communities.
